Decided to give the Apple inn a go and so glad we did, as soon as we stepped into the place we were greeted with a friendly welcome which made us feel at ease right away. There were a few locals sitting round the bar who also acknowledged us which was nice as in most places you normally just get a hard stare. Once seated we ordered drinks and browsed through the menu, I go into what food we had but be assured all 2 courses were plentiful & delicious, so much so we didn't have room for a desert.
We will definitely be back thats for sure
Sadly not a lot of atmosphere in the dining area which seems to resemble a posh hospital cafeteria with the tables packed closely together and quite noisy.
The food took a while to come and when it did come, one dish was cold, which to be fair was rectified.
Puzzling is why the scampi comes with fries when the classic is ‘scampi and chips’.....especially when the best thing about this place is the beef dripping chips!
Friends who were eating also had an even longer wait and we’re disappointed in their food, but maybe this was an off day.......
The plus was the staff who were friendly and we did get a small discount off the affected dish and for the wait, and the steak and ale pie was amazing.
After a week trying local places this wouldn’t be our first choice to rush back to for overall value for money.
This is more like an upmarket restaurant -modern, stylish decor - so don’t expect a traditional Village pub. Calm, chilled atmosphere. Most tables in main seating area taken so nice background chatter. Three of our party had the “Apple” berg burger. Declared the best burger they’d ever had. The serving size was substantial, so at £12.95, it offered exceptional value too (though I would never give a restaurant a good review just because portion sizes are big. Quality is what matters). I had the Stuffed Aubergine served with roasted vegetables, lentils, crispy duck egg and spinach sauce. It was one of the best vegetarian meals I have eaten. Gourmet vegetarian food is hard to get just right (much harder imo than, say, cooking a steak or burger perfectly). Again priced very reasonably. Generous sides of onion rings and sweet potato fries were excellent. I wish this were my local. Seriously cannot understand the poor reviews.I bestow 5 stars in restaurants rarely. Pleasant low key staff. Just lovely.
